UFFC | Welcome

A Greeting from the UFFC Society President

Greetings and Welcome...

Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control is a Society of the IEEE, with an international membership of approximately 2200 technologists. Our technology is diverse today, with our common historical origins all traceable to the phenomenon of piezoelectricity.

Our field of interest includes theory, technology, materials, and applications relating to:

These technologies enable sophisticated medical diagnostics, improved sensors for industrial control, lead free electronic components, synchronization for telephony and data transport, and precision timing technology for Global Navigation Satellite Systems.

The UFFC is organized into three groups, as our name implies. We typically hold three symposia annually with an objective of strong collaborative interchange and a special focus on the students who study our technology. Some of the best minds in our community volunteer to teach at tutorials and short courses at these symposia.

In 2010 our symposia include:

These meetings offer a fantastic opportunity to learn and network with colleagues and customers as well as to hear about the most recent advances in the field. More detailed information about each of these meetings is available on the conference web sites.

Ours is a volunteer-led and –run society and, as such, we always seek the ideas and help of our Society members to support both our technical programs and our administrative activities. Please contact me if you would like to become involved in any way.

Also keep in mind that our Society’s Distinguished Lecturers serve in overlapping terms. They are:

Dr. William Hunt (Jul 2009 - Dec 2010) Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA for his lecture: “Clues From Digital Radio---applied to Biomolecular Recognition”. Bill is scheduled to give talks in the UK, in Korea and Germany.

Dragan Damjanovic (Jul, 2010 - Dec 2011), Adjunct Professor, Ceramics Laboratory, Institute of Materials, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, for his lecture: “Piezoelectric materials - microscopic mechanisms, novel compositions and advanced applications”

Thank you for visiting,

Mike Garvey
